Rynagh Cornish, Tunbridge Wells Care Centre’s administration assistant, has won a prestigious award at the Great British Care Awards.
Having beaten off stiff competition to reach the star-studded south-east regional final in Brighton at the weekend, Rynagh was one of 14 finalists in the running for the Ancillary Worker Award, which is open to administrators, cleaning and maintenance staff. According to the award category description, this recognises “an excellent, person centred service to clients, demonstrating dignity and respect through ancillary services”.
Rynagh, who joined TWCC four years ago and works three days a week, has taken on many additional tasks that are not in her job description since the previous administrator left the home in February. She helps home manager Donna Barks deal with residents’ funding issues and agency reports, always has a lovely smile for visitors and residents and does the things that no-one else thinks about, such as placing the stationery order or filling up the hot drinks machines.
“I love how Rynagh is so calm and cool, taking things in her stride. She’s also super quick with coming back with information. If she doesn’t know how to do something she uses her initiative and asks someone else,” says Donna.
The judges agreed that Rynagh really is the wind beneath the wings of the home. “Rynagh’s passion for care shines through in her eagerness to learn and develop. Alongside her administrative role, she works with the activities team to build meaningful connections with residents, enhancing her understanding of their needs. Her empathy, dedication, and proactive approach make her an inspiring and invaluable team member,” they said.
“I am really happy to win this award and honoured to have been amongst so many other fantastic finalists. I’d like to say a big thank you to all my colleagues at Tunbridge Wells Care Centre, as well as the residents and their families, for their amazing support and inspiration,” says a delighted Rynagh.
She will go forward to the national finals in Birmingham in March 2025, competing with other regional winners for the national Ancillary Worker Award.
