Donna Barks Home Manager Tunbridge Wells Care Centre

Our managerAbout Donna

Donna came to Tunbridge Wells Care Centre in early 2022 as a manager fresh from our sister home Barty House Nursing Home in Bearsted, near Maidstone, where she was deputy manager. She is an experienced carer and nurse who spent three years working on the acute surgical ward at Tunbridge Wells Hospital, as well as in community hospitals and several care homes in Kent and Devon where she oversaw the care of people with advanced dementia.

In 2022 Donna won the Women Achieving Greatness in Social Care Awards’ Rising Star trophy in recognition of her sterling service at Barty House. She joined the home as an agency nurse in January 2020. By June she had become deputy manager and, when Barty’s manager left six months later, Donna found herself in charge during an outbreak of Covid! Donna loves Tunbridge Wells and is delighted to be managing the home, which is so close to the centre of town.

“You are part of our family, and it is important to us that you feel valued as a member of our home community.”

Our home manager is supported by a multi-disciplinary team of nurses, carers, housekeeping, activities, facilities, administrative and catering staff who all receive regular in-house training from our learning and development team.

Person-centred care is core to life here at Tunbridge Wells Care Centre, and we know that everyone’s needs are different. So, we take great care to get to know you, beginning with a pre-assessment, so that we can develop and maintain detailed care plans for you. We involve your relatives and family in this, too, as they are often able to help us to understand you, your life and the things that are important to you.

Before you move in, we invite you to come and spend an afternoon with us, with your family, so you can meet our staff and other residents. During this visit, either I or a senior registered nurse will carry out a pre-admission assessment of your nursing needs, so that we can agree on and arrange for the right level of care for you. We have an excellent visiting medical doctor service, and recommend you take advantage of this, although you can choose to retain your existing GP if this is practicable.

We always try to find ways to make you feel comfortable and we never forget that this is your home. You are part of our family, and it is important to us that you feel valued as a member of our home community. This also includes your relatives and friends, and part of caring for you is to make sure that they also feel like a valued part of our extended family.

What is most important is that you feel at home, and that you have the freedom and choice to live your life as you choose to, with you the comfort and reassurance of a committed and caring team of staff.
