About this role

Contracted Hours 37.5 hours per week

The facilities technician takes responsibility for health and safety, general decoration, maintenance and repair throughout the home, including the garden and grounds. This role is absolutely vital to the safety and wellbeing of residents, staff and visitors.

Because of the nature of the work this may not necessarily be a nine-to-five role, as some on-call support will be needed. But for the right person it will be an exciting, varied and responsible role. To be successful as the facilities technician, you will need a sound knowledge of property maintenance and repairs, skills such as basic plumbing and electrics, bags of enthusiasm and the ability to work hard – often on your own – to manage your time, prioritise tasks effectively and use your own initiative.

Reporting to the head of facilities, your duties as the facilities technician would be many and varied. They include arranging regular fire and smoke alarm tests, checking that drains, guttering, bathrooms, windows and all other pieces of equipment are fully operational at all times, reporting faults promptly and overseeing repair by external contractors. You must also maintain accurate records, keep the garden and grounds tidy and free from obstruction and, overall, maintain a safe and clean environment, both internally and externally.
